Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve

On this Christmas Eve I wanted to take a moment and reflect on what Vacant Grave Society stands for and the reason for its existence. I want to start by featuring this poem I wrote that ultimately became the origin of the VGS namesake.

You say my faith is just a void

A way to make the weak feel safe

It’s true I believe in nothing

There’s nothing in His vacant grave

A few simple lines. A bit confrontational... and let me be honest a bit sarcastic. But as I wrote these words I felt the weight of truth. In this broken and fallen world we live in there are a lot of people that view the Bible as a fairy tale or as just another ancient book. There are those that would call it simply 'old-fashioned'. There are even some so-called 'Christians' that choose to treat it as a self-help book, using the comforting verses and throwing out the rest. And yet it is the truth. God speaking to us. Every single word is God-breathed. It is authoritative and it is the voice of our Sovereign creator. Our King.

Jesus. The King of the Jews, The Humble Servant, The Son of Man, The Son of God. Born of the virgin Mary in a barn in Bethlehem. Riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. We called Him a liar. We accused Him of heresy. We screamed with a bloodthirsty outrage to "CRUCIFY HIM!".

And yet God's redemptive plan could not and will not be thwarted. Satan tried to have King Herod execute Him as a baby. His own hometown of Nazareth tried to throw Him off a cliff. We even slaughtered and killed Him and freed Barabbas instead.

GOD remained SOVEREIGN.

REDEMPTION remained priority.

JESUS remained KING.
In this season I pray you all enjoy time with family and loved ones. I pray you reflect on what God has done for you. I pray that you cherish God's Word. Thank you for supporting Vacant Grave Society. And remember that with Jesus Christ WE are a Vacant Grave Society.

We celebrate the birth of our King Jesus tomorrow. The one who came into this fallen world knowing He was going to die. The one who bled on the cross and died for us. But after three days...

There’s nothing in His vacant grave.
